Controlled Environment
Closed-circuit setting
The track offers a hazard-free environment where you can explore your motorcycles capabilities. You'll be grouped with other riders of similar speed and skills, there are no slippery white lines, and you can use as much of the road as you want without the fear of something coming in the opposite direction. Racetracks are also designed to a specific safety standard so even though you might be going faster, it is a considerably safer environment than the public roads.
Riders and motorcycles are checked before going on-track each and every session by Course Control staff. They ensure your bike is safe, your gear is fitted corectly, and that you are riding in the right group. Once on-track, if there's something around the next corner you should be concerned about, we'll let you know via flags and/or lights.
The flags used are briefly described below:
Yellow flag/Light – Cautionary flag. Either used in a stationary or waved capacity to indicate the rider should exercise caution in the next section of the circuit as there may be something or someone on the track. There is no passing under a yellow flag.
Red flag/Light – Indicates the session has been ended, possibly due to a dangerous situation on track. There is no passing under a red flag. Leave the circuit at the nearest exit (pit entrance is located after Turn #18).
NOTE - In extreme situations a marshal may indicated to come into the paddock entrance near Turn #4. This entrance is only to be used under the direction of the marshals.
Black Flag – Indicates there is an issue with your bike and/or riding:
*Half rolled up - displayed - pointed*
Rider must exit circuit at the first opportunity and go directly to course control.
Chequered flag/Light – Used at Turn #16 to indicate the session is complete. Leave the circuit at pit entrance (after Turn 12).
Please see the Safety Briefing for a full description of flags used at SMSP Ride Days.
